Optimize Windows Operating System Fundamentals, System Performance, and Silicon-Level Hardware Integration at Scale
Join Microsoft’s Windows + Devices Fundamentals team as a Software Engineer to optimize system reliability, performance, battery life, and overall device architecture across the Windows ecosystem. In this early-career role, you will analyze system telemetry and trace data to diagnose complex hardware and software interactions. You will write high-quality, maintainable code, investigate low-level system issues, and implement performance and power optimizations across operating system, firmware, and application layers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze telemetry, trace data, and system metrics to identify platform bottlenecks and performance optimization opportunities.
- Investigate and debug complex operating system, firmware, and application issues using specialized performance analysis tools.
- Design, code, test, and maintain robust system-level software using best-in-class engineering and code-review practices.
- Evaluate and validate OS-level performance, power efficiency, and sustainability enhancements through data-driven approaches.
- Collaborate with internal software teams, hardware engineers, and OEM partners to deliver ecosystem-wide optimizations.
Tools/Technologies Used:
- Programming Languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python
- Systems Engineering: Windows Internals, Operating System Concepts, Power Optimization, Silicon & Firmware Integration
- Debugging & Diagnostics: Windows Performance Toolkit (WPT/ETW), System Debuggers, Trace Analysis Tools
- Data Analytics & Telemetry: Telemetry Analysis, Cloud Data Platforms, System Performance Metrics
- Development Tools: Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD Pipelines, Automated Testing Frameworks
